Friday in Franklin County: the Orange Possum

Friday in Franklin

When was the last time you picked out clothes you liked on Facebook or Instagram?  But then had someone set them back for you to try on and possibly purchase?  For me, it was yesterday thanks to the Orange Possum and owner Kelsey Card!  Sure Hampton is not a big metropolis, but we have the privilege of having an incredibly unique boutique right here.

Kelsey started working with her mom at her shop, the Wood Cellar, since she was about 5 years of age. It just seemed natural to follow in her footsteps of owning a business.  Her love for fashion is something else that has always been in her blood. After moving to Philadelphia right after high school, her love for it was accelerated and intensified.  Because of this passion, a clothing boutique only seemed natural.  So where did the name Orange Possum come from?  Well, Kelsey’s favorite color is orange and she has always thought that opossum’s were a cute, unique animal, so she put it together as a joke and it stuck!!

Kelsey stocks her store with women’s and juniors fashions, shoes, jewelry, and more accessories.  Not does she and her team have a retail store, but they also have a very incredibly successful Instagram account where people can shop directly!  This is only one particular part of their business that they enjoy!  Taking pictures, shipping items, and seeing where they go across the United States (yes, literally almost every state) is also so rewarding to them.

8 years after opening, Kelsey and the Orange Possum are more successful than ever.  She said that people are most often surprised at the eclectic style they offer in their store, especially for being such a small town boutique.  Kelsey’s eye for fashion is very clear and she stocks her store with a wide variety of clothes (leggings, dresses, pants, tops, tanks, etc).  She carries both casual and dressier items as well as a little bit of something for every age range!  If you’re not sure what to put together or how something looks, just ask her wonderful staff as they are happy to help! (Trust me, I’ve used their opinion more than once).

The best thing about owning her own business is being just 2 doors away from her mom’s shop!  Of course, she loves Hampton and says it’s a great community to be a part of.  She says for her it’s small, but not too small and her local customers are absolutely wonderful.  So, what does she hope and dream of for the future of the Orange Possum?  She wants to continue to grow and to also progress their online sales.  She loves what she’s doing and wants to continue to offer a boutique to her small town for years to come!

Make sure to follow the Orange Possum on Instagram and head over to their Facebook page and give it a “like”!  And when you have the time, stop into the store and check it out!  I’m sure you’ll find something you love and make sure to tell them Katy sent you!
